Q: With any city, its a take & give - I know that there will always be good & bad. However, the ATL does have quite the repuation for its crime & I was wondering, Is Georgia Tech a 'safe zone' from all that crime? Or is it hazardous to be a student there - Where are most of the dorms located; If I choose not to live in a dorm, where are the safest communities in/close by the school?

A: Georgia Tech is in Midtown, mostly on the west side of Atlanta. The city of Atlanta is not as dangerous as the 'action news' would make it out to be. Around Midtown is not especially unsafe or crime-ridden, but you do need to be street smart and car break-ins are common in most affordable neighborhoods. There are a lot of places to live (houses, apartment buildings, etc) in Midtown, around GA Tech, and around Atlantic Station - although most of Atlantic Station was built within the past 2 years, and it can be expensive to live there.
