Q: I'm going to Colorado next year and I'm trying to figure out what is the best time to go. I want to go rafting and ride horses and maybe go hiking to see the open lands, I don't want it to be to hot because then everyone will be sweaty and it will ruin the trip. I was thinking when it starts winter or a little before.. i don't want to go when it snows either. And also whats a good place to stay, somewhere that's not in downtown or in the city, i want it to be around beautiful views and where we can get breakfast down stairs. Can anyone help?
A: Firstly, you aren't even going to look in Denver...that is NOT in the area you are interested in. May and June are the best times for rafting, especially if you want real, honest Whitewater. And, if you are coming to the mountains, you won't find it hot at all. WE do, because we are accustomed to it, but you will probably find, even at the peak of summer, that it is so much cooler than you are used to. In fact, you might want to bring a sweater or sweatshirt, because you will find it gets pretty cold after the sun goes down, even in the summer time. Most places will have breakfast downstairs, either a free breakfast, or a coffee shop or restaurant. Lots of open lands around here, and rafting, and some horse stables. Wildflowers are gorgeous around the end of May! I live in Summit County, Keystone, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain. Also, Vail, Glenwood Springs, Durango area, Telluride, Winter Park, Rocky Mountain National Park area. All would fit your bill.
