Who here has a New York accent?

Q: haha.....i'm in the city every day and i noticed its alot harder to find a new york accent these days. the only place where you can actually hear our accent regularly now is in the outer boroughs (especially Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island)& the suburbs (especially Long Island) Native & Longtime New Yorkers, how do you guys feel about this? not all long islanders & Jersey people are fist pumpers.....whats wrong with you? and i LIKE the accent, cuz i actually tawk like dat and im damn proud of it. I dunno why everyone wants to sound like the actors on television. "ooh look at me, i learned "good" english from lizzie mcGuire when i was 13!" good for you.

A: I grew up in Brooklyn and yes, I still have the accent and I'm damn proud of it. But you are absolutely right about the accent getting harder and harder to find. There is no such thing as the "typical" New Yorker anymore. New York has become so diverse that you're as likely to hear an accent from New Delhi as you are Canarsie. It's not the foreigners that annoy me though as much as the damn hipsters that moved here from Ohio, but that's another story. Anyway, I wear this Brooklyn accent like a badge of honor whether I'm home or when I travel.
