these redbird trains?

Q: i was just wanting to know whether one set of redbird trains can run again on a occasion because i spotted 6 in brooklyn railyard and 5 in queens so i was wondering, will they ever run again? to be specific on the 7 line on a request? thank you my lovelies :D

A: They will never run in regular service again, but the MTA will probably drag them out for nostalgia trips like they often do with old equipment. The Coney Island Yard, where you saw them, is capable of rebuilding and maintaining all cars in the system. They have lots of old cars berthed there. My favorite is from the Third Ave El, the oldest one I remember riding.3 A regular Train Operator will carry about five keys and that will work for all the active cars in service. Some yard workers have over a dozen in case they need to move some of the old stuff around. Incidentally, these cars weren't new to the post grafitti era, they were first put into service for the World's Fair in 1964. To combat the widespread grafitti of the following decade the cars were repainted from their original blue and white with a special formula paint that was designed to be cleaned easier. Anyone who likes old equipment like this should find their way over to the transit museum where they have equipment from most of the last century of the subway.
