So what should the people of san antonio Tx do about hurricane Ike? we are 140 miles away from the coast ?

Q: the news really isnt reporting anything like they did for LA, so that pisses me off.. they have closed events for the weekends down here but if any one else have any info im missing i would appreciate it! SAN ANTONIO IS KNOWN TO FLOOD....! VERY FAST

A: The last significant Hurricane issues we had in San Antonio was Celia in 1970. Due to the way the storms tend to lose their structure over land, they are not as intense normally 10 hours later when they arrive in San Antonio (if traveling at 14 miles an hour as Ike has been). We also have plenty of warning that they are going to hit. For most of the city, most of the storms cause some flooding and high winds, and some people may lose power due to falling lines. This storm is expected to turn north as it crosses onto land, and San Antonio will be on the outer edge of the storm area. It is a good idea to have food and water, so you don't have to drive. Fill your car, and have some cash in case you need to leave your home, if it is in a flood prone area. And have batteries and working flashlights and lanterns for light. THE MOST IMPORTANT ITEM! for all San Antonians, is to not drive into low water crossings or standing water. During Hurricane Celia I stood at school and watched as one of my friends and his father were washed down a raging creek when their car stalled in the water as they were driving to the school. They were both killed. My brother and sister were saved from their school bus as it was filling with water the same day, when their driver drove off the road into a low water crossing. Have respect for the flood areas in the city.
