Good eats near National Archives?

Q: I would like to find a nice, clean place to eat lunch with a half dozen students near the National Archives. Walking distance is preferred...

A: I was in D.C. last summer, and spent a bit of time around the National Archives. Are you looking for sit-down, something quicker, or a picnic spot? There are a couple of sit-down restaurants circling the Navy Memorial (immediately across from the north side of the National Archives) that looked quite nice. I think there might be a sandwich and ice cream place on the west side. I can visualize it except for the name. On the south side of the archives building, there's a sculpture garden with a cafe that seemed popular. I've never been there though. My intern group found a Potbelly Sandwich Works just to the east of the Navy Memorial on Indiana (637 Indiana Ave NW) that was pretty nice with a fair amount of indoor and outdoor seating. There are lots of nice, little places to eat in that area since it's so close to all the Federal buildings. You might have to share space with the civil servants on their lunch breaks, but hey, great people-watching. If you'll be visiting any of the government buildings in that area, you might ask someone for a recommendation. If you'll have a picnic, there is lots of seating near the Navy Memorial (tourists too...you might get your picture taken inadvertently). You're also just a little ways north of the Mall, which is a lot of fun. Hope this helps!
