Q: does anyone know of some nice little islands around the DC/ Maryland area similar to Nantucket? Or Cape Cod? Please help!
A: Smith Island is the only sort of remote island near Maryland. Tangier Island is off the coast of Virginia. Neither is anything like Nantucket or Cape Cod. Both are very working class, fishing village places. Nothing upscale or "chi chi" about them. Strong people who have weathered all sorts of storms, literally and figuratively and really don't care much for "mainlanders". Expect to leave the big city attitude at the shoreline.
